The Challenge

Betty's Pickles + Preserves is a small batch producer of gourmet food items. Based in Ottawa, Ontario. With restaurants and bars mostly closed due to lockdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic, people were seeking high quality ingredients to fulfill their charcuterie cravings (and more) at home.

Betty's Pickles + Preserves proudly supports a local food charity in Ottawa and is partnered with a local brewery to utilize leftover fruits in salsas, jams and more. Betty's also tries to source local ingredients whenever possible.

Proving a truly local alternative for gift-giving, as well as gourmet accoutrements for the ever-growing at-home charcuterie trend.

Betty's started selling via word of mouth, and then through Instagram where customers could order via direct message or email. There was no analytics history, no professional photography or graphics, and an extremely limited budget to develop an online ordering platform, or kickstart digital marketing campaigns. A small local business truly starting from scratch.

The Process

Working with the business owner, we created a roadmap that outlined priorities and worked within her budget to get the essentials created.

The first step was to understand the story of Betty's Pickles + Preserves, and take the brand to a whole new level by personifying it and discovering the unique selling propositions. I took what assets the owner had as far as graphic design and photography and refined them as much as possible within the budget. I helped build out a product catalogue, wrote product descriptions and edited all available images.

With the owner, it was decided they needed an e-commerce solution and after exploring a few options, we decided to go with Shopify. I built the Betty's Pickles Shopify store, edited the template to fit the brand, customized all email notifications, implemented Google Analytics and e-commerce tracking, inputted all content and products and got the website ready for launch.

We decided on a date for the brand's Friends & Family Launch and I set up an email marketing campaign for the event.

ROAS

Fly Rides USA

Fly Rides came to us looking to test out the viability of Facebook and Instagram as a paid advertising channel. They did not have a paid media strategy in place, and wanted to see how well their high AOV store (5,000-7,000 USD AOV) would do with Facebook Ads.

The company had attempted paid ads internally but saw very little success with it.

ROAS

Summergrove Halls

Summergrove Halls are a hotel and restaurant based in Cumbria. They had used various other channels in the past to try and drive growth of both room and restaurant bookings but found all were unsuccessful. Summergrove Halls' challenge was their location, whilst adjacent to the Lake District was too far to be a viable selling point and the hotel was functional rather than boutique or luxury. They had a niche audience of walkers, people working on nearby projects and people visiting the nearby hospital.
