The Canadian tax industry is very competitive. TurboTax and H&R Block are the giants in the space. SimpleTax came along with any innovatively easy product and fun product that challenged the status quo. The brought fun to a stale space. My job was to efficiently bring in new customers to simpletax.ca through primarily paid search, and assisted with paid social activities. It was very important the message was 'on brand' which had a more 'fun' approach than the competitors. We also had tight CPA requirements as the payment model was a 'pay what you want' or donation model.
My consulting work with the Human Of Color focused exclusively on social media management. The unique challenges I faced when working with this client had to do with content and engagement alignment between what the client desired vs. what I knew would work best given my knowledge of the social media algorithm.
Because of this challenge, I learned how to lean more into developing brand new strategies that served both the existing social media algorithm and what the client preferred in order to achieve client satisfaction and social media growth simultaneously.
The brand was struggling to improve the ROAS of their online store above 300%, after getting a taste of 800 - 900% during the pandemic, when people being stuck at home all day every day was beneficial to a brand like theirs. The brand was already familiar to consumers who were used to seeing it at stores like Harvey Norman and Kmart, but now could no longer shop at those stores. Another challenge was not being able to offer discounts on their products deeper than the stockist retailer were offering.
The target ROAS was 500 - 600%. The channels they were using were Facebook/Instagram Ads and Google Ads. Facebook was an area of concern as they did not see consistent returns there, although the channel very well during lockdowns.
